POROSITY ANALYSIS WITH INDUSTRIAL CT
Identify pores, blowholes & inclusions
If pores, blowholes & inclusions get out of hand, components cannot meet the necessary requirements. Minimising these defects is particularly difficult when starting a new production. Conventional die casting, for example, can hardly be produced free of porosity. For this reason, a porosity analysis is usually necessary to optimise processes & quality control.
Microvista supports you here by inspecting small & large quantities for significant imperfections in a fast & automated CT scan process. Alternatively, high-resolution & standard-compliant CT scans with a detailed analysis by our experts can support your sampling. You will receive a high level of process reliability & individual evaluations at any time.
Serial testing
Quick inspection of fault focal points
In the development phase of a new component or when new fault points occur, you want to know quickly where you stand. This saves money and nerves. The digitisation of light metal or plastic components with an enveloping cylinder of d= 500mm & a cumulative material coverage of approx. 200 mm can be done in a few seconds.
The high scanning speed enables favourable inspection costs (here to the price list) & creates an economic alternative to scrapping.
Typical field of application
- Uncovering focal points of error
- Inspection of blocked lots due to a suspected deviation in a quality characteristic (pores, blowholes, etc.)
- Prophylactic avoidance of refinement of potential rejects, e.g. in the case of pores in machining surfaces
Example: Automated porosity analysis
Sealing lips are examined in an automatic process. The colour-coded test zones allow for different pore sizes in each case.

In order to better check for impermissible pores, the test zone is unrolled automatically.

Shortly after the CT is unloaded, it is already clear whether the inspected component belongs to the OK or NOK category. This means that the appropriate sorting can also be carried out in the same work step.
Procedure of a serial testing
Shipping the components to Microvista
Do you want to outsource your entire quality control? For larger quantities, Microvista accelerates processes through automation.
Evaluation in the cloud
Do you have your own CT? Then upload your scans to our cloud and have them evaluated automatically. This saves you an enormous amount of time, as a manual evaluation is not required.
Mobile CT solution
You only need a CT inspection temporarily & do not want to ship your components for an inspection? Then rent a CT system only for as long as you need it! With Microvista’s unique mobile CT solution you save high investment costs & long waiting times.

Individual part testing
Detailed sampling of a few components
Sampling according to the various standards of car manufacturers and associations requires a high-resolution scan data set. The execution is process-safe, standard-compliant and in a practical form of presentation. Reliable statements with concrete indication of remaining uncertainties are a matter of course.
Typical field of application
- Initial sampling or requalification of components on the basis of relevant standards
- Detailed analysis of focal points of error
- Blowhole and pore analyses on iron and steel castings
Example: Detailed sampling of a few components
Sampling according to the various standards of car manufacturers and associations requires a high-resolution scan data set. This is carried out in a process-safe manner, conforms to standards and is presented in a form that is suitable for practical use. Reliable statements on the scan with concrete indication of the remaining uncertainties are a matter of course for Microvista.
Images from the laboratory CT

A high resolution enables detailed statements to be made on the concrete characteristics of the blowhole or pore geometry.
Sampling procedure
Execution according to P202 or manufacturer’s standard (ZFN 1136, VW 50093)
In addition to the support provided by industry-standard tools, Microvista also works with in-house resources to produce standard-compliant test reports.

In the standard process, all orders are processed within 14 days at the latest.
If the parts do not have a serial number, they are registered with an internal number when they are received. Both the scan data and the analyses & reports created in subsequent processing steps then refer to this number. This ensures 100% traceability of all work steps.
Reliable analysis results do not come about on their own, even with the best equipment. In addition to the expertise of the processing staff, established processes for uncertainty evaluation are required.

Analysis and evaluation:
- Manually prepared 3D pore report per component € 130
- For larger quantities (> 200), an automatic system can be created at short notice from our extensive module library, with which the evaluation costs for the porosity analysis can be reduced to a fraction of the scanning costs!
The above price table is based on the following component geometry:
- max. enveloping circle: d= 500 mm
- max. cumulative wall thickness: 200 mm
- Material: plastic or light metal, iron inserts possible
