What the APQP checklist contains
- 5 phase sheets with 49 checkpoints, from planning through to production monitoring, each with a status (Yes/No/N/A), comment, person responsible and deadline
- Status dashboard: Progress by phase and counter for overdue items, calculated automatically
- Schedule: Enter the SOP date; the target dates for the quality gates are calculated backwards from this
- Characteristic measurability matrix: record each critical characteristic, including its location and measurement method; the file automatically reports characteristics for which no method has been specified
- Information sheet setting out the relevant regulations
The process is based on the five APQP phases as defined by the AIAG (3rd edition, 2024); the approval documentation in Phase 4 complies with VDA Volume 2 (PPF) and PPAP respectively.
What sets this template apart from others
Most APQP templates list tasks and deadlines. This checklist also addresses the issue that often causes sampling failures: is every critical characteristic actually reliably measurable? Characteristics that are internal or concealed require a different inspection method to accessible dimensions, and this must be clarified in Phase 1, not just when the first sample is produced. Our technical article explains the background to this.
